Step-By-Step Images and Instructions
1.
Begin by using a black pen and a ruler to draw a large rectangle in the center of your page.
2.
Switch to a black fineliner, and draw a curved "C" shape in the left of the box. Add a short, wavy line to the top and bottom, and then another curved line just above the bottom to create a mouth. Add a small mark to the end of this.
3.
Now, add two sets of bumpy shapes to the end of the top line.
4.
Draw a large almond shape at the end of this top line…
5.
And then bring a curved line down towards the bottom right-hand corner of the page.
6.
Next, draw a wavy line at the end of this, taking this across to the right.
7.
Take the line up, add a pointed almond shape to the top, and then bring a curved line down and across to the left. Add two short lines inside the shape to create the tail.
8.
Bring the bottom line down towards the bottom of the page, and then across to the left.
9.
Now, return to the original shape, and bring a curved line down from the bottom of this to the bottom of the box.
10.
Add a short "bump" to the bottom of this, and then continue the line down and to the right.
11.
Now, add two long, slightly curved parallel lines to the right of this line, and join these at the bottom to create a second front leg.
12.
Bring a curved line up at the back for the back leg…
13.
And then repeat this shape just in front of the first.
14.
Connect the front and back legs together with a curved line…
15.
And then add pointed hooves to the bottom of each leg, with a short mark in the center of each.
16.
Add a wavy line down the back of the neck, creating that distinctive giraffe mane…
17.
And then add another pointed ear to the top of the face.
18.
Add an almond-shaped eye to the face…
19.
And then add two curved, vertical lines inside this, with a small black circle in the left side. Next, add a short curve above the eye.
20.
Add a series of circles, semicircles, and shapes all over the body.
21.
Now, add wavy lines to the right and left of the body. Leave a slight gap to the left, and then add another short, wavy line.
22.
Add a series of zig-zag lines to the top left corner…
23.
And then draw two pointed shapes at the bottom of this, forming the top of the tree.
24.
Bring down three sections from the bottom of the tree, and then take a line down on the left, to the bottom of the box, to form the branches and main trunk of the tree.
25.
Bring a line down on the right, and then across to the right. Add a series of wavy lines to the end of this for twigs.
26.
Add another curved line to the bottom of the twigs, and then take the line down to form the other side of the trunk.
27.
Connect the two sides of the trunk with a pointed section at the bottom…
28.
And then add zig-zag lines on either side of this for grass.
29.
Add two more curved, wavy lines to the line on the left of the body, reaching up and across to either side.
30.
Now, add two more wavy lines to the top right corner of the box.
31.
Bring two sets of long, curved parallel lines down from these shapes, creating trees in the background.
32.
Use a brown pen to add color to the hooves, the tail, and the mane of the giraffe.
33.
Grab a brown pencil, and shade the patches of the giraffe…
34.
And then use a bright orange pen for the main body.
35.
Grab a pink pen, and shade the underside of the ears.
36.
Now, use a brown pen for the trunks of the trees…
37.
And a bright, vibrant green pen for the tops of the trees, and the foliage on the ground.
38.
Finally, use a deep blue pen to shade the sky in the background.
And just like that, you have an adorable giraffe, happily munching away on a bunch of leaves – all he is waiting for is a name; can you oblige?
